The Straw Target Dragon is a unique and vibrant folk art deeply rooted in the rural traditions of Sichuan Province. This traditional dragon dance prop is carefully made by binding straw into a fierce dragon shape. Known for its bold and rustic style with vibrant colors, it originated from ancient folk rituals and ancestral worship. The dragon’s head is designed to appear powerful and impressive.
During performances, the dragon comes alive as a team of dancers manipulates it with poles, weaving through the streets in dynamic patterns that mimic flying or chasing a pearl, often accompanied by the energetic rhythm of drums and gongs. This art form masterfully preserves the rustic charm of primitive agricultural culture while integrating modern aesthetics. The lively performance not only showcases exquisite craftsmanship but also reflects the cultural heritage and creativity of local communities.
